digital font made entirely of symbols (dingbat font).

 

Originally intended to allow use of scalable images in the early years of personal computers. The font is a combination of the fonts Lucida Icons, Lucida Arrows, and Lucida Stars, created by Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes. Microsoft condensed them into one font and included it in the original Windows operating system. The name “wingding” is a combination of “windows” and “dingbat.”
