leporello
OAB Definition
another term for an accordion fold, named after the character Leporello in the play Don Giovanni who, in many performances, unravels a long accordion-folded list of Don Giovanni’s romantic conquests.
In common use in Germany.
The accordion form predates Don Giovanni, but it also predates the musical instrument. Don Giovanni was first performed in 1787, the accordion was invented in 1822, and the accordion fold (折本 or 对折本 in Chinese) was developed during the Tang dynasty (A.D. 618-908).
