blizzard book
OAB Definition
folded, non-adhesive codex-like structure created from an accordion. Pages are formed by making triangular folds which are reversed and folded down. Each page is a pocket that can hold leaves or folios.
Created by Hedi Kyle on a day that she was stuck at home because of a blizzard. She and her co-author, Ulla Warchol, say: “A unique characteristic of this family of folded structures is the fact that they bind themselves. …through a series of diagonal folds, triangles become the mechanism that both locks the pages together at the spine and holds the content. Neither sewing nor adhesives are required in any of the blizzard variations.”
ABT Definition
Book created using a nonadhesive structure invented by Hedi Kyle (1990s) in which a single continuous piece of paper is folded to resemble multiple signatures when viewed from the spine side. This results in a series of pages, each containing a pocket.
