binding method in which the cover and textblock of a book are created separately, then joined by gluing the case to the textblock’s hinges and/or endsheets. This is the common form of mass-produced, hardcover editions.

ABT Definition

Bindings in which the text block and case — that is, the boards and covering material — are prepared separately and later joined by gluing the end pages of the text block to the inside of the covers. This is a common binding method used for mass-produced hardcover editions.
