group of leaves folded in half together, usually with the grain direction of the paper. May be blank or contain content. May be bound or unbound.
May also refer to the act of gathering and ordering printed material into the correct order, prior to binding.
In binding instruction, unprinted sections are sometimes referred to as gatherings to distinguish them from signatures, which are usually printed.
