lay-flat binding
OAB Definition
softcover, hollow backed book whose text block is consolidated with cold-glue and gauze.
Originally developed as the Otabind by the Otava Bookbinding Company in Finland, the structure allows a multi-section book to open flat. It has since been reworked by a number of manufacturers. There are now versions with sewn or unsewn sections, with spine folds ground off like a perfect binding, and styled like the drum leaf binding.
