variable edition
OAB Definition
series of prints pulled from the same matrix that are not identical, but very similar. In a variable edition, different papers or ink colors might be used or the artist might adapt their approach or methodology in some way.
An artist may also opt to change content in some way from one copy to the next as part of a conceptual approach (chance operations, layered meaning, responsive processes, etc.)
If the variation occurs in the binding structure or elements of the binding, use binding variants.
