wire edge binding

OAB Definition

book structures that use a metal wire or rod along the binding edges. The wire is exposed at regular intervals to allow the panels to be connected by knotted thread or metal hinges. Structural variations produce and bind either stiff panel pages or folded and gathered sections.

The value of this approach is a binding that opens exceptionally well, and allows for the option to produce unusual 2D and 3D shapes. Wire edge binding was invented by Daniel Kelm in the mid-1980s.
