woven and interlocking book structure

OAB Definition

form that is bound with a combination of folds, flags, flaps, slits, slots, or interlaced strips. This type of structure often involves an accordion or concertina spine that integrates the leaves of the book with minimal adhesive.

Inspired by Hedi Kyle’s book forms, Claire Van Vliet developed a series of structures in response to a variety of textual problems. Van Vliet and Elizabeth Steiner published Woven and Interlocking Book Structures in 2020, which details the development of individual projects and provides instructions for assembly.
