wrapper
OAB Definition
covering material for a book, pamphlet, or loose sheets.
Sometimes refers to any paper container made to hold an object or group of objects, often to partition the housed objects from other items in the same housing.
May refer to relatively plain paper covers on a book. Historically wrappers were meant to be temporary and removed before a book was more permanently bound. Rare books in their original wrappers may be more valuable.
Wrappers used as archival containers are usually easily produced and made of acid-free or buffered paper. Sometimes these housings are intended to be temporary. Many variations exist, but four-flaps and self-closing wrappers are common.
ABT Definition
Outer cover of a paperbound book or pamphlet.
