drum leaf binding
OAB Definition
stiff-leaf binding made of single folios tipped together at spine and fore-edge. Spreads lay completely flat and allow content to be viewed without interruption across the gutter. The individual folios provide the bookmaker freedom from complex imposition, allowing the content to be printed on a single side only.
The form was developed by Timothy C. Ely to avoid issues of expansion and contraction associated with fully adhered stiff-leaf structures or board books.
